How Much Does Adoption Cost??!
This question is usually at the top of the list so I've created a page just for logging expenses. As we pay fees, I will post what money goes where and when. As for how we will pay for each fee.....when God calls you to do something, He supplies everything you need. We are not "rich." I have new student loans to pay off and a credit card that I need to pay down. I drive a used Toyota Camry and my husband's car is provided by his company (but before that he drove a used truck). I work in childcare, currently less than 30 hours a week, and we are trying to sell our Iowa home while living in Nebraska.
However,we have a small "nest egg" from diligent saving (and my husband's rad money management skills), resources for adoption grants, and a BIG God who provides all our needs. We don't have a doubt in our mind that He has already provided the funds for our adoption, and He will supply as needed.
Also, I think most weddings I've been to cost more than our projected Adoption costs. We didn't spend more than $5,000 on our wedding. But even if we had spent $35,000 to spend our lives together forever, I would do it all again to share that life with a child of our own. People find ways to pay for the things they need, and also the things they really want. Your "broke" friend with a new iPad chose to spend their money on an iPad. We are choosing to spend our money investing in our family right now. To us, it's worth every sacrifice...and doesn't even feel like a sacrifice.
If you're looking into adoption, or going through the process of adoption, remember that God is our provider. He created the world, and everything in it. He has the power to make His plans work, regardless of our thoughts, actions, and/or doubts. Be wise with your spending when you have to spend, trust God to provide what you need, and thank Him for calling you to such a wonderful ministry. Adoption isn't just about "starting or growing a family", or "saving an orphan", it's about loving people...all people, and growing in your faith as you journey through a life changing experience. Those of us called to adopt are beyond blessed, regardless of how we ended up here.
